Palm Springs 2002 Fly-in

Fly-in report by Bunny Martz

Beginning on March 14th, 2002, 38 airmen and guests began their descent upon Palm Springs California.

Dick Petty, however, experienced alternator problems in Sedona (the spot of Dick and Jane's new home). After two false starts, Dick left his bird on the ground and drove all the way to Palm Springs.

Activities included, shopping at the street fair, the World War II Air Museum, International Art Show, and last but certainly not least, "The Follies". I don't know about you... but I've never seen an 80 something lady do the splits!! Very entertaining!

A wonderful Mexican dinner followed the follies, complete with margaritas large enough to swim in. Brenda Leal celebrated her 60th birthday with the group.

Departure from Palm Springs was scheduled for Sunday, but the weather had other plans for everyone except Jane Petty along with the Engles and the Wises who rented a car and drove back. The Zerwecks returned IFR and the Irwins returned VFR with a 4 hour hold over in Los Banos waiting for weather to clear.

The rest of us stayed an extra day and visited the Living Desert and another fun dinner at the Chart House. All in all a great time was had in "Palmy".

If you weren't able to make the trip this time, try to put Palm Springs California in your future flying plans, the trip is well worth your time.
